Silversun Pickups - Seasick

Silversun Pickups - Seasick

When in the end of last year Silversun Pickups tweeted that the band will be releasing an EP entitled Seasick for the Black Friday’s Record Store Day, I was all ready to ask them to play it in my apartment. Anyway I’m happy I didn’t get a chance to do that, for when I first listened to it – after it was released on November 25, 2011, through Dangerbird, – and.. I won’t say what I thought of it exactly, but it was one of those phrases that a fan would say after being a bit disappointed in favourite band’s new record. But everything isn’t so bad, trust me. For now, with a bit of withholding, I do like the EP.

Songs that ended up on the mini album were left out from band’s latest album, Swoon. Seasick track is very calm and melodic with Brian’s and Nikki’s nice vocals lyrics are in perfect harmony with song’s music, spiced up with small dreamy sound effects resembling a song of the best ocean creatures, dolphins. The song is mostly calm like that until it wakes up a little thanks to active and passionate performance, and then fades out again.

Broken Bottles – uhm, if I could, I would hide this song from everyone, and I don’t even speak of never releasing it yet. Though this is the only song from the three tracks on this EP to have active rhythms, drive and all, it still isn’t an excuse enough for the song itself, which has nothing new in it, at least for me.

Ribbons and Detours – moody, very beautiful, dreamy, melancholic, extremely minimalistic, very much loved: I am a big fan of such songs.

All in all, it’s not bad, we can say. Finally we have new songs from the band, but I hope the new album will differ from this EP. And all we know about this forthcoming album is that it still has a working title “3” and will probably come out this spring.
