Subsonica – Microchip Emozionale (August 26, 1999)

- Subsonica – Microchip Emozionale
Now we just try to go back for 10 years. I don’t know what kind of period it was for you but for it was when Subsonica’s first album was issued which helped them to acquire several hundreds of fans and the right to put their songs on local radio stations. I forgot to say that they had already managed to earn the suspicious opinions and criticizm of more than several hundreds of people, when the musical critiques were looking forward for their failure or mistake to begin their black job. How could I forget such “details”?? However, the band was not afraid of this and was doing its work because they already felt the success in the air, they knew that what they were doing was going to be a crucial change for their native Torino first of all and for all the INDIE society of the world. Why for the whole world? For example, I can’t imagine any “respectful” indie who hasn’t listened to Subsonica. If there are such then they have punished themselves…they have lost A LOT. Being so much passionate about their work Subsonica released a second album in 1999 September which was recorded in their own studio Casasonica. Now imagine how hot and “bombastic” Torino’s club life became. And exactly then the destiny became favorable for them and they were invited to the world known San Remo Music Festival as a brand new indie band. And it’s quite strange, as the main focus of this Festival is on the presentation of retro and classical songs. But it wasn’t important; they couldn’t miss this chance. And these was just the beginning. In 2000 the destiny was already not “smiling” but “laughing” to them. They were invited to play at the famous Ariston theatre; presence of an orchestra, auditorium of 12 million people, playing live…and they were to present their single Tutti I Miei Sbagli (my favorite song))). After this their music became loved, when numerous journalists were killing each other for an interview with them, and during the concert the previously several hundreds turning into a huge crowd was listening to them with fingers crossed and mouths open.

When you listen to the album you realize why they are so much loved. It just doesn’t have limits when the drums and bass are combined with unbelievable electronic sounds turning into house and all this is in such harmony with the lyrics…Yes, it does correspond to the lyrics though out of Italy many don’t know the meaning of the songs. But it isn’t important because your body begins to move with the rhythm when you start listening to the songs; this is the most speaking and relevant argument. When they became the picky Italian indies’ favorite treasure people realized that this love is mutual and not hopeless …At least Towards Torino for sure, you can see it even from Il Cielo Su Torino (Torino sky) song (for me The Sky Above Torino literal translation is more acceptable). Each song of the album has unexpected and unique thing in it so if I say that Aruora Sogna – Aurora Is Dreaming, Tutti I Miei Sbagli- All My Mistakes, Liberi Tutti – Everybody’s Free, Il Mio DJ – My DJ, are real hits and are so rich I won’t be mistaken. And Albe Meccanichi- Mechanical dawns – only the title is worth everything, or the weird sounds of Buncia in the beginning can be heard at the end in Perfezione lasting for 9-10 minutes.
In general, Emotional Microchip brought the deserved and long expected success to the band after which the “Indie men” didn’t change didn’t lose their minds and remained creative, unique, eager for innovations, away from scandals and a little bit (in its positive meaning) unreachable…
