The Stone Roses play a surprise gig, the first in 16 years
The Stone Roses surprised their fans yesterday, on May 23, announcing free warm-up show at Warrington Parr Hall. Anouncement came just a few hours before the gig but free wristbands were gone very quickly, more than 1000 in total.
Live show kicked off with I Wanna Be Adored. The Stone Roses played 11 songs, mostly from their ’89 debut album, with no encore.
There is not much footage from the show. Probably frontman Ian Brown has played a big role in it telling fans that they should be “living the moment” rather than take pictures and videos. However, there is a 33-second video of the band performing Made Of Stone at the show and a new version of Sally Cinnamon played during the soundcheck. You can watch both clips below. No hint of 3 or 4 new songs which the band have seemingly begun recording, according to different reports.
Liam Gallagher was also present at the show, tweeting “Stone Roses are back” and “Speechless” later.
