The White Stripes

The White Stripes

February 2, 2010: The White Stripes officially announced they’re splitting up.

Jack and Meg White haven’t released an album since Icky Thump in 2007 and gave no concerts after their unfinished 2007 tour. This news was obviously anticipated, but still it came by surprise.

The White Stripes with their noisy rocknroll were one of the most important elements on the music scene in the beginning of millenium, and will no longer exist to give us new songs or concerts.

According to their official announcement, their rare and unreleased songs will still be coming out on Jack White’s Third Man Records label. Jack himself will be busy with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful,” – is said in Meg’s and Jack’s announcement.
