Heavy History – Menomena
Menomena is a band with a heavy history that you may have not heard about; since releasing their debut album, Danny Seim and Justin Harris have toured with The National and Gang of Four, went on to receive a sequence of recognition from Pitchfork and ended up being nominated for a Grammy award for “Best Recording Package”.
Their next full-length album entitled Moms will be released on September 18 through Barsuk Records. In the tantalizing detail to fragment words, where you read through the open ended questions between the fact that Danny had lived the same amount of years without his mother, since she had passed when he was 17; to Justin experiencing a similar destination but with his father leaving early in his childhood. While you have one parallel to the next covering a particular path, it is in a truly ironic coincidence, but maybe it’s way of the universe’s appeal to put these two masterminds together.
“Heavy Is As Heavy Does” embodies the title to such an extensive core, where your soul feels a bit turned over at the fact that sadly two people had to go through such circumstances, where you feel the tense real life truths of what happens when you grow older and start looking back with attention to detail. With a high acclaimed response, this had to be the one record where you are not only honest about your life, but you also discove that all along on this idealistic road, you find the obstacles and you come face to face with them. In this reality Menomena just happened to do it with an album. With the “Mines” you figure out that alter-ego wasn’t hiding but adjusting.
