Introducing: Exit Calm

Exit Calm are an alternative, psychedelic rock band from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, UK.
Their mellow undertones on songs such as ‘Hearts and Minds’, and ‘We’re On Our Own’, are reminiscent to the likes of Oasis, Embrace, and Kasabian.
The band is made up of vocalist Nicky Smith, guitarist Rob Marshall, bassist Simon Lindley, and drummer Scott Pemberton, who formed in 2006 as Exit Calm, when the three former band members of Lycra Sleep were looking for a talented and powerful frontman to add to their pack. The band’s name comes from the book Silent Rebels, that bassist Simon was reading at the time that the band got together. Nicky Smith was appointed as their lead singer, and since then, Exit Calm have produced incredible and ‘epic’ songs that have even likened them to The Verve.
Simon says about the sound that they create: “It comes naturally to us when we write. The stuff that connects us is all big sounding stuff. Rob’s got a massive sound for one guitar, he’s the most instinctive player I’ve ever heard.”
The band have a distinctive North-of-England sound that runs through many Northern bands, as they are from near Sheffield, but the difference is that although most Yorkshire-based bands in England have the electronic synthy sound that goes with their guitar riffs, Exit Calm focus on delivering the edgy, psychadelic beats through their drums.
